Used iPhone Camera Quality: How We Test Cameras Before Wholesale

Cameras are the second thing end customers test after the display, and camera faults are among the most annoying to discover after resale. Here is how camera testing works inside our 60-point inspection and what our grades do and do not say about cameras.

What camera checks are part of the 60-point inspection?

Every unit is tested on all rear lenses and the front camera: photo and video capture, autofocus, switching between lenses, flash, and portrait mode where the model supports it. We inspect the lens glass for scratches and dust and we check iOS for camera-related parts warning messages. Face ID is tested separately as part of biometrics.

Do the grades reflect camera condition?

No, and that is deliberate. Our grades describe what happened to the device: Only Activated (activated but never used), A / A- (used, all original parts) and AB (changed parts) (A / A- units we repaired, usually with a new display plus a new battery). The camera requirements are identical across all three: a unit with a failing camera, damaged lens glass or a camera parts warning does not ship in any grade. In AB units the repair typically concerns the display and battery, and the camera still has to pass the same tests as in every other grade.

Why does lens glass matter?

Scratches and dust on the lens glass show up in photos as haze and flare long before anything is wrong with the sensor itself. That is why the lens glass is part of the check on every unit, not a detail left to the cosmetic grade.

What if a camera fault appears after delivery?

Every grade carries the same 30-day warranty. Report the unit by IMEI through our RMA form and we repair, replace or refund it. Our overall RMA rate stays under 1.5%.
