In a move to strengthen user privacy, Apple has introduced a suite of new developer tools and guidelines designed to enhance transparency and give users more control over their personal data.
The new tools require developers to provide detailed privacy labels on their App Store product pages, informing users about the data each app collects and how it is used. This initiative builds upon Apple’s App Tracking Transparency feature, which mandates that apps must obtain user permission before tracking their data across other companies’ apps or websites.
“Privacy is a fundamental human right, and we’re deeply committed to protecting the personal information of our users,” said Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering. “These new tools help developers be more transparent, while empowering users to make informed decisions about their data.”
Apple is also introducing enhanced privacy protections in iOS 15, including Mail Privacy Protection and on-device speech recognition for Siri, ensuring that user audio requests are processed directly on their iPhones by default.
